– U-Know Yunho (정윤호)

Jung Yunho (born February 6, 1986), better known by his international stage name U-Know Yunho, is a Korean singer and occasional actor. He is the leader of the South Korean boyband and now duo TVXQ.

Early life

U-Know was born and raised in Gwangju, South Korea. He has a younger sister, Jung Ji-hye. At the age of thirteen he joined SM Entertainment, after winning a dance competition.

Before debuting in 2003, U-Know appeared in label-mate Dana’s music video for her song “Diamond” as a backup dancer and rapper.

He has said he chose his stage name to be U-Know because as the leader of the group, he wants to understand everybody as in “I know you.” and “I know that you know that I know you, so you know that I know that we know each other”.

Acting career

In 2005 and 2006 Jung appeared with TVXQ on their mini-drama series “Banjun Theater”. He appeared again in another TVXQ mini-drama series “Vacation” in episode 1 “Cassiopeia” with Go Eun Ah and Woo Kyung Ah.

Jung made a guest appearance on episodes 62 and 64 of Nonstop in 2006.

In 2009 Jung was cast as the lead, Cha Bong Gon, in the MBC miniseries “Heading to the Ground” with labelmate Go Ara. The drama ran for 16 episodes.

Jung was cast in June 2010 to share the lead role Prince Shin in the musical remake of “Goong”. In September 2010, he starred in the Korea tourism promotional movie “Haru: An Unforgettable Day in Korea” as an action movie star. Jung also starred in “Chorus City” a film featured at the Republic of Korea Pavilion at EXPO 2010 Shanghai China with child actress Jun Min Seo and other artists.

Late 2010 Jung was cast in a supporting role in the drama Poseidon.[15] He began filming in November and pictures of him filming and on set were released. In February 2011 it was dropped by SBS citing weather conditions, cast members dropping out, filming setbacks, and numerous postponements. “Poseidon” was then picked up by KBS in June, recasting the lead roles. Due to his busy schedule overseas, Jung was unable to rejoin “Poseidon”, but it was revealed in August that Jung would be making a cameo appearance as Kang Eun Chul, a competitive rival to Choi Siwon’s character. His cameo on the series concluded after four episodes.

In late November, a teaser trailer of “I Live in Cheongdam-dong” showed Jung making a cameo in the sitcom. He cameoed in the first episode as himself, refusing to pay for a late manhwa bill, which is similar to Jung’s real-life habit of owing late bills for overduemanhwas.

In 2012, Yunho, along with bandmate Changmin, starred in the SM documentary I AM. The film chronicles TVXQ’s and other SM artists milestone to be the first Asian artists to perform at Madison Square Garden and Yunho and Changmin’s journey to that point, including archival footage, reflection interviews, and rehearsals.

During early December 2012, it was announced that Jung was cast in the SBS drama Queen of Ambition and it would air in January 2013. Jung started filming toward the end of December.

Cyanoacrylate Drink Incident

While the group was filming a variety show on October 14, 2006, U-Know was rushed to the hospital after drinking a beverage, which was laced with super glue, that had been given to him by an anti-fan. His manager quickly instructed him to vomit right afterward. The anti-fan turned herself in the next day. The female suspect, whose surname is Ko, was apprehended on October 16, was a member of an anti-TVXQ website for over two years.

U-Know, who has a younger sister the same age as the culprit, contacted the police and requested that they not press charges against Ko in spite of the potentially severe consequences of what she did. He mentioned on a television show a while after he had recovered that the entire event “affected [him] more mentally than physically”.[15][16] Circumstances were unclear as to how U-know drank from the open container, and how the culprit managed to enter the building of the broadcasting station.[17]
